newt was sick all week :(

Posted by justanotherstayathomemom on May 25, 2008

well, newt had fever for 4 days…and after two doctors visits, it was thought that he had exodative strep throat, there was “white junk” on his tonsils, and his ENT now thinks he is a candidate for a tonsilectomy. hubby says this would be the year to do it since we already met the deductable for the year with roo. that doesn’t make us feel any better, but at least it won’t put us in the hole anymore than we already are! we shall see what the dr says in a few weeks. dr.’s kids have the worst luck. his very first, and only ear infection, turned into mastioditis, which is where the spongy bone behind your ear gets infected, which turned into surgery….3 c.t. scans, 6 iv’s, and two surgeries later, it was gone! that was a hell of a thing to go thru at the age of 18 months, but he did great! the gift of daycare….it just keeps on giving! ( and taking)

roo is 6 weeks old!!

Posted by justanotherstayathomemom on May 25, 2008

and he is very cute!! of course, i am somewhat biased, heehee. he is growing and growing…he has already changed so much. when we brought him home, he was a stick, now it looks like he has rubber bands on his wrists from all the fat he has put on!! case in point…at birth he was 6lbs, 5oz; at 2 week check up he is 6lbs 14 oz; at 4 week checkup he is 9lbs and 10oz and 20 1/4 inches!! that boy of mine put on 3 lbs in 2 wks!! i guess breastfeeding every 2hrs (or less) works! he is rolly polly. newt was so the opposite. he weighed less than my cat for most of his first year of life…of course, if you knew my cat….we weighed him again at home and it looks like another pound…so at 6 weeks he is approximately 11 pounds, wow! here is a pic of him, double chin and all!!

meals for the rest of the week

Posted by justanotherstayathomemom on May 21, 2008

will update with cost after i visit the grocery store! i know you can’t wait, hahaha!

dinner: (not in order, sorry!)

Roast Turkey Breast with Chipotle Chili Sauce (sun) (have none on hand)
chili (with hamburger meat) (thu) (have little on hand)
honey mustard pork, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans (wed) (have everything on hand)
frito pie (left over chili with fritos and cheese) (fri) (have fritos and cheese)
pork and green chili casserole (sat) (have most on hand)

lunch: (no order)

turkey chef salad
honey-baked lentils (crockpot) (on hand)
carrot coconut soup (experiment) (on hand)
pizza pancakes (experiment) (need cheese and tom sauce)

breakfast: (no order)
breakfast quiche (need eggs, sausage and crust)
whole wheat bagels and cream cheese (on hand)

what is your plan for the week? i think about what i have in the fridge, then i look at the sales paper, then i write out a menu list. it is very time consuming, but i am getting better at it. will have to blog about the proper way to meal plan and grocery shop!

update: i spent around 100$ including beer, draino, meds, and soap. not to bad. i didn’t make the bagels, the lunches (except lentils) or the chipotle turkey(subbing chicken cause, damn, turkey is expensive) hubby was working all weekend so, this boys and i ate leftovers and such. the pork casserole is great, i did modify it some, and the breakfast quiche is great too. hubby wants me to modify that to include biscuits instead of pastry crust. the man is a carb lover, what can i say. my menu for next week will include several things from this menu…so half of my work is done for me! yay me!!

well, newt has fever…it started last night. i was sternly warned by hubby to NOT kiss either kid or let newt kiss roo AT ALL. he was kinda pissy when he said this so i said, somewhat pissy myself, ok, i get it! i know he is worried…if roo gets a fever, then it’s a hospital stay and a spinal tap and all kinds of fun stuff…so mommy has been very good..no kissing on lips. keeping newt away from roo hasn’t been to bad cause he just wants to lay on the couch and watch his new fav cartoon, krypto the superdog (betcha didn’t no superman had a dog, didja?) both boys are currently sleeping, although roo is making noise, as usual.

as for dinner, since i didn’t get to the store (i was also sternly warned no outside time either) i think we will have stir fried rice. i made some london broil the other day…even after a many hour marinade it wasn’t very tender…next time it goes in the oven ( i have never done a london broil before) the leftovers will be chopped up for some throw together fried rice. with groceries sky rocketting in cost, i am on a mission(should i chose to accept it) to eat cheaper, but i also want to eat very healthy too. my bill may go down or up depending on how i tackle this mission.
i think it will go up…way up!

i will be perusing sites focusing on healthy eating, not dieting or anything like that. i have never been a dieter in the sense. i tried them, like everyone else, when i was younger, but just don’t like following such a strict set of rules…1/2 a cup of this with 1/4 c of that and 1 tsp of oil and 45mins later i am starving and can’t eat again until dinner! so, what i will be doing to loose this baby weight is to just eat less and more often…ya know, the whole 6 small meals mantra. of course, i tell my hubby, we will still have our junk food days…who doesn’t go crazy at a pizza buffet every now and then, but at least we will stay on a healthy track for the most part.

so, my cheap and somewhat healthy meal for dinner is “free” cause i have all the stuff i need for fried rice, and pretty healthy cause you don’t need a lot of oil, just lots of salt…oh well, at least it isn’t chicken nuggets!

looking for help with meal plans? i recently found a blog that has tons of ideas every monday…

she and a whole bunch of others post their plans for the week…very cool cause she even links the recipe! yay! these may or may not be healthy, but they will be ispirational nonetheless.

"iron man" gets two thumbs up!

Posted by justanotherstayathomemom on May 19, 2008

hubby is on vacation again this week…so off went the newt to daycare while his parents went and saw “iron man”. drew was with us, of course, and made all kinds of noise, of course. i had to hold him the last hour of the movie cause he was noisy. not crying, just making a growning sort of noise (similiar to the sound he is making now) i only missed like 2 mins of the movie, so i was happy! great special effects, great plot, somewhat predictable (i mean he is a comic book hero, so no worries about his sudden demise) and oh, boy…does robert downey jr look goooood!!

anyway…we look forward to seeing “indiana jones” on thurs or fri…when the child’s away, the parents will play!!! i read in mag article that harrison ford still fit into his old costume, and that he was very please with himself!

hubby has a whole laundry list of things to do, but of course only 1 or 2 will get done…what with daily naps and lots of emails to send out (chief duty calls), i am happy if my curtain rod gets hung…anything else is bonus.

i am coming up with ideas for summer time fun for the littles…hubby and i talked about swimming lessons for 3 yr old and soccer/t-ball/football as well, courtesy of the YMCA. ( i applied for thier financial aid which would allow us to join for less…waiting impatiently to hear back cause they have a rockin’ water park included in the membership!) also while at the movies today, i found out they have a movie club for the summer….10 movies for 5 bucks…i think we will try it out…if newt pays no attention and runs around like a crazy, then i am only out 5 bucks…it’s worth the gamble. i am planning on park time, but we will have to do that early, as it gets really hot really fast in the south. we have a 10ft long blow up pool in the back yard…that will give us hours of entertainment. the blow up pool i REALLY want is this one

or this one

don’t those look like fun!!!!!

gotta win the lotto first!!!! or wait till end of summer clearance? or ebay…i dunno….hubby of course thinks i am crazy…he just rolled his eyes when i showed him the commercial! i don’t even know if either of these pools would fit in my small backyard, but i can dream, can’t i????

other than parks, pools, movies and the y…i don’t know what else we will do. it sounds like alot, but i already know there will be those days of winning and complaining that there is nothing to do and that i am sooo bored. i’m sure newt will get tired of it before long….(get it? i’m the one winning, not the 3 yr old…i’m trying to be funny, hahahahhaa)….

hubby is already being head-hunted for jobs, apparently his field is extremely hot right now and there are not enough people to fill all the positions. already getting an idea of how much he could make his first year in practice…it’s very exciting to say the least (hey, maybe i can afford that blow up slide/pool after all!!, i just gotta wait another year, hahahaha)

when did we lose it?

Posted by justanotherstayathomemom on May 19, 2008

our God-given friendliness? most of us were very friendly as kids…we were sweet and open and happy to meet people. we were happy with whatever toy we got for our birthday party. we loved our friends, and were sad to see them go home…even if we only met them 45 mins ago. my sweet 3 yr old son is this way. we were at the grocery store a few days ago and he told the sacker “i got undies on” to wich to looked at me and i translated “he has big boy underwear on” her look back was tragic, she could care less. now, i know she was probably only 20, and had no kids, but…why couldn’t she fake it for my little sweetie? why couldn’t she say, “oh wow!” and smile? that would have made his day! he loves it when people talk to him or pay him any kind of attention. he will say hi to anyone in his vicinity…when was the last time you said “hi” to a stranger? sadly, only 50% (or less) return his “hi” with one of their own.

how hard is it to say “hi” to a three year old boy with a huge smile on his face? apparently, it’s very hard.

another story…again, in the grocery store. we were shopping and went down the tea/coffee isle. my sweetie says “hi” to the store worker, a lady of say 30 ish, and she says “hi” back. big smile from my boy, he continues to talk to her…”i have a jacket on” she, at this point has turned her back and is no longer paying attention. we are the only ones on the isle and it is mon morning, and very quiet, so i KNOW she can hear us…she keeps her back to us as my sweet son keeps saying his line. i, of course, talk to him about his jacket, and what color it is and such…

i know he doesn’t know the difference, but why couldn’t this lady have given him another moment or two of her time.

how many children have i ignored in the past? children who only wanted a smile and nothing else.

i want my son to always be outgoing and friendly and sweet and charming. i don’t want this world to crush his sweet spirit and teach him that it is easier to be aloof than it is to be friendly. my pastor says if you want to make friends, then show yourself friendly.

when was the last time you showed yourself friendly? when was the last time i did? hmmmm

be friendly today…if only to one person…you will be better for it
