“Plus Size” models–what a joke

Posted by justanotherstayathomemom on September 9, 2009

Crystal Renn is the highest paid plus-size model out there.

She is a size 12.

When did a size 12 become “plus-size” –that is something I would like to know.

I was watching Fox and Friends this morning and this gal was on, talking about her career, and her new book, and how plus-sized models were becoming more and more accepted. They are “back on the catwalk”.

What catwalk is she talking about, exactly?

Now, she is very beautiful, no doubt, but lets be very clear about something, size 12 is now considered plus-size.

Let that sink in.

I used to think size 16-18 was plus size, didn’t you?  Let’s be honest, the term “plus-size” in itself has negative connotations.  I hear “plus-size” and I think “fat”.  It’s a knee jerk reaction as I have been conditioned by the media to think as such.  Havn’t you?

So, I currently am one size off from being “plus size” since I am a size 10.  Wow, just gonna let THAT one sink in!  Have you even been over to the plus-size section at the clothing store?  They consist of sizes 18 and up (and lots of size 22)..I know because I was looking at some cute clothes the other day, they were all to big, and then I looked up and saw that I was in the “Women’s” section.

The problem is our perceptions.  Above is a picture of  “America’s Next Top Model” winner.  She apparently is plus size too.  And supposedly a size 14 at a height of 5’10”.  36-32-43

Yep, she looks like she belongs in the “plus-sized” catagory to me too (rolls eyes).

What we really need is to change our perception of what is acceptable/achievable.  The MSM isn’t going to help us do that by printing photos of plus sized models as they are way to busy keeping us up to date on Brangelina

Is this really a “movement”?  Will magazines start to show size 12 girls on it’s covers in lieu of the immaciated pre-teens we are used to seeing?

Is the media just looking for a good story to up their numbers, and charge more money to their advertisers???

makes me wonder…..

How does that make you feel?  I don’t think it will make one iota of a difference in the MSM because magazines will put pics of this girl on their covers instead of the what is really out there.

We simply prefer to look at  the unattainable on the covers of magazines.  It makes us feel better about ourselves…doesn’t it?  (rolls eyes)

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
